Our Story

SMMP members share leadership and horse training techniques to build a strong bond between man and horse. These shared experiences are valued through the troop making parades an important part of team work.

Established in 1930, SMMP | Santa Monica Mounted Posse is the oldest mounted horse unit in California. Our troop participates in parades around Southern California includig Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, and the San Fernando Valley. The horses are trained by member owners during regular training rides and group events.

Members and horses have a regulation standard uniform and are inspected before each parade. The uniform includes specific hats, gloves, ties, shirts, as well as matching tack for  horses.
